Let Go: My First Album

Music has been a big part of my life since I was around four or five. A minister at a vacation bible school camp told my mother that my sister and I were musically inclined and the next thing I know, we’re taking piano lessons. From there a whole new world opened up that I’ve fully embraced to this day. I started “composing” early on. There was this plaque I found and the words inspired me. I don’t know who wrote them or where it came from and I don’t even have it anymore, but I can still remember the words:

Help me believe in what I can be
And all that I am
Show me the stairway I have to climb
Oh Lord, for my sake
Teach me to take one day at a time

A melody just came to me and though I couldn’t play it on the piano yet, it didn’t deter me. My sister and I practiced and sang an acapella rendition at church; the rest is history as they say! We went on to learn other instruments, further developed as vocalists and now I have an album of original inspirational works to share. It’s pretty humbling and exciting to reflect back on the journey.

Someone once asked me where the songs come from. I thought I would have to think about it, but I didn’t. I instantly replied, “I’ll be thinking about something, or praying about a situation, just talking to the Lord and He speaks back. That’s where most of my songs come from, what He speaks to me.” I think that’s why it took so long to produce an album. There were other factors at play for sure, but I think one of the biggest reasons was not feeling ready to share.

Many of the songs are personal, a reflection of my journey thus far and getting to the point where I am finally letting go and letting God. So now, I am sharing. I’ll post a series of blogs about each song and the inspiration and story behind it. I hope those who listen and read are encouraged and blessed, reminded the He is always faithful, true, and ready to step in if we let Him.

Thank you in advance for your support!
